Overview | Wise Preservation Planning LLC is perhaps the region's biggest producer of Comprehensive and Intensive Level Historic Resource Surveys. As of 2011, we have recently completed 3 such projects in Chester County, Pa. having nearly 2,000 resources. The three municipalities are Kennett (actually nearing completion), West Marlborough and Pennsbury Townships. Funding for these project was in part provided by a matching grant through Chester County's Vision Partnership Grant Program. Historic Resource Surveys document historic resources in a municipality, region, or planning corridor. They may be either comprehensive (all resources 50 years of age) or thematic (such as pre-World War II resources). Survey projects include GIS mapping, digital photography, detailed site plans, evaluation of significance, spreadsheet providing all relevent details about each resource, and recommendations for historic districts. Some surveys include historic research. In-depth surveys also include the completion of a state Historic Resource Survey Form (HRSF) for historic properties. The form includes a professional architectural description of each historic resource on the property. Wise has completed 11 comprehensive historic resource surveys and several thematic surveys throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Wise has surveyed thousands of properties and nearly 7,000 individual resources. Wise has also completed seven municipalities for the Chester County Historic Resource Atlas project, a comprehensive survey designed to identify historic resources using a consistent methodology for the entire county. Wise helped develop the standards used for the Atlas. As of 2011, Wise is working on the last elements of the survey for Kennett Township. Chester County-funded projects contain additional planning elements in conjunction with a municipality's comprehensive and/or open space plans, and cultural resource protection ordinances.
